City of Boston

In 2004, after years of contemplating the idea, Andrew Prescott took the plunge and started Urban AdvenTours. The decision was made with a specific goal in mind: making Boston a more bike friendly city by putting more people on bikes, showing them how to navigate and explore the city streets.

The dream has always been to transform metro Boston into a bicycling mecca. Andrew knew this was a daunting task, as Boston has long been regarded as one of the least bike friendly cities in America, according to experts such as Dorchester native and Bicycling Magazine editor, Steve Madden.

Since 2004, Urban AdvenTours has worked closely with the city of Boston and Mayor Menino to change this perception by making bicycling in Boston safe and viable. Urban AdvenTours has been active in planning the annual HUB on Wheels festival, an amazing bike ride, starting and finishing in Government Center, with tons of great bicycle festivities, food, and fun. The turnout has been incredible and continues to build, and we are all optimistic about the rise of bicycles in Boston.

Urban AdvenTours continues to work with the city to achieve our mission of making Boston a bike-friendly city and getting more and more Bostonians in the saddle.

HUB on Wheels 2007

Andrew Prescott, Chief Wheel Officer, with Mayor Menino and his grand children at the HUB on Wheels festival in 2007.

Urban AdvenTours has been a strong supporter of the annual Hub on Wheels ride since they helped launch the event in 2005. We are happy to see Mayor Menino spinning around City Hall on his new Trek Lime. We hear he has been riding early in the morning down near his home in Hyde Park, and keeping it wheel!

We are happy to announce that Mayor Menino has hired Nicole Freedman as Boston's new bike czar. Her mission is to make Boston more bicycle friendly, and it looks like the Mayor has picked the right woman for the job. Not only does Ms. Freedman have a degree in Urban Planning and experience as a bicycle planner on the West Coast, she's also earned two U.S National Championships and a trip to the 2000 Olympics on her bike. Urban AdvenTours is very happy that Ms. Freedman is on board and we look forward to working with her in our shared mission of making Boston a bicycling town.
